Childhood Illness, Choking and First Aid Overview 001

 

Course Description: The primary objective of this course is to train child care providers to recognize and understand children’s diseases and to become familiar with techniques to remedy choking.  This course also presents an overview of techniques required for First Aid.

 

Course Objectives: To learn details of:

·         Common childhood diseases and appropriate remedies

·         Procedures to aid children choking

·         Requirements for First Aid training

 

Learning Outcomes: As a result of completing this course, students will be able to recognize and understand the treatment of common childhood diseases and contagious disease.  They will learn the importance of immunization and become familiar with basic life saving procedures.

 

 

Playground and Infant Safety 002

 

Course Description:  The primary objective of this course is to train child care providers to recognize dangers on the playground and to  understand methods for planning a safe outdoor environment.

 

Course Objectives:  To learn details of:

  • Planning and design of the playground
  • Requirements for meeting safety standards
  • Providing safe equipment
  • The provider’s responsibility on the playground

   

Learning Outcomes:  As a result of completing this course, students will be able to recognize playground hazards, plan safe play periods on the playground and become familiar with laws regarding outdoor.

 

 

Infectious Disease, Safety and Hygiene 003

 

Course Description:  The primary objective of this course is to train child care providers in various areas of common childhood infectious diseases and the importance of immunization and proper hygiene.

 

Course Objectives:  To learn details of:

  • Recognizing infectious diseases
  • Required reporting procedures
  • The impact of disease in children
  • Proper and safe remedies for disease

 

Learning Outcomes:  As a result of completing this course, students will be able to recognize and understand the treatment of childhood diseases, become familiar with signs and symptoms of disease and understand mandatory laws regarding reporting such diseases.

 

  

Injury Control 004

 

Course Description:  The primary objective of this course is to train child care providers to understand the various ways in which children are injured and to teach methodologies for reducing the rate of such injuries.

 

Course Objectives:  To learn details of:

  • Injury prevention
  • Teaching children to avoid injuries
  • Reviewing common and uncommon injuries such as fire and abduction
  • Controlling environments to reduce injuries

 

Learning Outcomes:  As a result of completing this course, students will be able to teach children to avoid injury and students will learn techniques to reduce injuries.

                                                              

 

Abuse-Elements & Indicators 005

 

Course Description:  The primary objective of this course is to train child care providers to recognize the various types of abuse.

 

Course Objectives:  To learn details of:

 

  • Physical abuse
  • Physical neglect
  • Sexual abuse
  • Verbal abuse
  • Emotional abuse
  • Emotional neglect

 

Learning Outcomes:  As a result of completing this course, students will be able to understand the underlying causes and symptoms of abuse.  They will also learn appropriate measures to take when dealing with the issues related to abuse.

 

 

Abuse-Disclosure & Impact 006

 

Course Description:  The primary objective of this course is to teach child care providers to understand the steps involved in disclosing abuse and the impact on all parties involved.

 

Course Objectives:  To learn details of: 

  • The purpose of disclosure
  • Proper methods for disclosing
  • When disclosure is required
  • The effect on those disclosing

 

Learning Outcomes:  As a result of completing this course, students will learn procedures for disclosure and will become familiar with mandatory requirements for reporting abuse.

 

Child Development: The Early Years 007

 

Course Description: the primary objective of this course is to train child care providers in understanding the developmental stages of children from birth through age five.

 

Course Objectives:  To learn details of:

·         How children develop mentally and physically

·         How to recognize each stage of a child’s development

·         How to create realist developmental goals for children

 

Learning Outcomes:  As a result of completing this course, students will develop appropriate learning expectations for children form birth through age five.  They will better understand each stage of the child’s mental and physical development.

 

 

Teaching Math to Pre-Schoolers 008

 

Course Description: The primary objective of this course is to train child care providers in planning effective daily math programs.

 

Course Objectives:  To learn details of:

·         The purpose of math

·         Math concepts

·         Understanding the child’ concept of math

 

Learning Outcomes: As a result of completing this course, students will be able to plan age appropriate math activities for pre-schoolers.  They will also learn to recognize opportunities to teach math lessons in the course of daily activities.

 

 

Teaching Art to Pre-Schoolers 009

 

Course Description: The primary objective of this course is to train child care providers in proper methodologies for the teaching of art.

 

Course Objectives:  To learn the details of:

·         Understanding children’s art

·         Children’s development in art

·         Planning age appropriate are activities

 

Learning Objectives:  As a result of completing this course, students will be able to appreciate developmental stages of art in young children.  They will also learn to plan art activities with simple supplies.

 

 

 

Understanding Infants and Toddlers 010

 

Course Description:  The primary objective of this course is to teach child care providers to understand appropriate learning objectives for the very young child.

 

Course Objectives: To learn details of:

·         Appropriate developmental expectations

·         The importance of play

·         Understand separation anxiety

·         Effective discipline

 

Learning Outcomes:  As a result of completing this course, students will be able to understand infant and toddler curriculum planning and utilize appropriate methods of discipline. They will also learn to measure children’s development and establish important routines.

 

  

Classroom Organization & Lesson Planning 011

 

Course Description: The primary objective of this course is to train child care providers in preparing daily lesson studies and to organize and arrange the pre-school classroom.

 

Course Objectives:  To learn details of:

·         Preparing daily lesson plans

·         Developing learning centers

·         Arranging furniture appropriately

 

Learning Outcomes:  As a result of completing this course, students will understand how to provide an interesting yet comprehensive learning day.  They will also learn to write lesson plans with daily themes.

 

 

Discipline:  What It Is & What It Isn’t 012

 

Course Description:  The primary objective of this course is to train child care providers in various areas of appropriate methods of discipline.

 

Course Objective:  to learn details of:

·         What discipline is and what it isn’t

·         Creating cooperative classroom environments

·         Teaching the disruptive child

 

Learning Outcomes:  As a result of completing this course, students will be able to create conducive environments and understand methods for behavior modification.  Students will also learn to resolve and improve interactions.

 

 

Team Building 013

 

Course Description:  The primary objective of this course is to train child care providers in techniques of team building in the work environment.

 

Course Objectives:  To learn details of:

·         Understanding the elements of team building

·         Removing barriers to team work

·         Implementing team concepts

 

Learning Outcomes:  As a result of completing this course, students will understand the process of awareness building and the importance of communication in building a strong team.  They will better understand the advantages of team building in establishing effective working relationships.

 

 

Stress & Burn-Out 014

 

Course Description:  The primary objective of this course is help child providers in dealing with issues related to the daily stresses of working with young children.

 

Course Objectives:  To learn details of:

·         Environments that create stress

·         Methods for recognizing and improving stress

·         Strategies to avoid burn-out

 

Learning Objectives:  As a result of completing this course, students will understand how stress develops and the reasons for burn-out.  They will also learn specific techniques for improving stress and burn-out in their lives.

 

 

Keeping Toddlers & Twos Busy 015

 

Course Description:  The primary objective of this course is to train child care providers in dealing with the daily challenges of providing learning activities for the very young child.

 

Course Objectives:  To learn details of:

·         Planning the environment

·         Teaching appropriate concepts

·         Creative play

 

Learning Outcomes:  As a result of completing this course, students will understand how to create interest and learning centers and how to create interesting room arrangements.  They will also learn to plan

daily activities that are age appropriate.

 

                          

 

Understanding Prejudice In Children 016

 

Course Description:  The primary objective of this course is to provide a realistic view of the basis of prejudice, and appropriate methodologies for dealing with diversity.

 

Course Objectives:  To learn details of:                 

·         How prejudice and bias begins

·         How prejudice and bias works

·         Understanding bias in gender, race, class and disability

 

Learning Outcomes:  As a result of completing this course, students will be able to better understand prejudice and bias and its pervasiveness. They will also learn techniques of reducing prejudice and bias in children and adults.
